"We want to have a great relationship with Pakistan, but they house the enemy," Trump said
Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 3rd January, 2019) US President Donald Trump has expressed his wish to meet the new leadership in Pakistan.
The US president, while addressing a cabinet meeting, said, “I look forward to meeting with the folks from -- and the new leadership in Pakistan, we'll be doing that in the not-too-distant future.”
Trump's remarks came when he was making a point about his ongoing disagreement with Congressional lawmakers over allocation of finances that has led to a partial shut down of the US government.
“It's unfair when we give money to Guatemala and Honduras and El Salvador and they do nothing to us.
While reiterating that the Trump administration wants to have a great relationship with Pakistan, as the same time he accused Islamabad of housing the ‘enemy’ as well.
“When we give money to Pakistan, $1.3 billion, I ended that. A lot of people don't know it, because they haven't been fair to us. We want to have a great relationship with Pakistan, but they house the enemy, they take care of the enemy. We just can't do that,” Trump said.
“I ended the 1.3 billion we paid, it's like water, we just do it,” the US president further said.
Earlier in December, US President Donald Trump wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, seeking Pakistan’s help in the Afghan peace process and bringing Taliban to the talking table.
Prime Minister Khan welcomed the US president’s letter and said that Pakistan is ready to play its due role in ending the prolonged crisis.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump while speaking to Fox news' Chris Wallace on November 18 had alleged that Pakistan does “not do a damn thing” for the US and accused it of helping Osama bin Laden hide in the country.
Responding to this, PM Imran, while asking US President Trump to put his record straight, said no Pakistani was involved in 9/11 (September 11, 2001 attack) but the country decided to participate in the US war on terror.
