Fake Accounts Case: CJP questions govt's move to place 172 names in ECL

The JIT counsel said that the cabinet had approved putting the 172 names on ECL.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 31st December, 2018) Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz has said that he wants to settle everything with the orders of Supreme Court.

A hearing on fake bank accounts case was held in the Supreme Court on Monday.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar questioned why Malik Riaz’s name appears everywhere.

“Are you doing legal work in Karachi?” the CJP asked.

To this, Bahria Town chairman said that he wants to settle everything.

Upon this, the CJP said that I had demanded Rs 1000 billion from you, you should submit them.

The CJP said, “You are running the country. Return the country’s money back. Keep the billions you need to spend your life and return the rest. You make and break the governments and then you say you were not aware of a plot.”

Malik Riaz then said that he has never run the country. “You can confiscate my properties if you want. You can take Ali Riaz’s house if you want. You should thank God a 70-storey building has been built in Pakistan,” he said.

JIT head Ehsan Saqib among other members are present in the Supreme Court while Sindh Advocate General Salman Abu Talib, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Raja Parvez Ashraf, Latif Khosa, Farooq H Naik, Farhatullah Babar and others are also present in the court.

During the hearing, the CJP further remarked why the Names of these people have been put in the Exit Control List (ECL). What excuse does the Federal government have?

The CJP said that the step curtails the freedom of the individuals, adding that Murad Ali Shah is the chief minister of Sindh, at least he should have been respected.

If it was a recommendation of the JIT, the government should have at least waited for the court orders.

The JIT counsel said that the cabinet had approved putting the 172 names on ECL.

The court then ordered Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi to submit a reply.

Meanwhile, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari requested the court to give him one-week extension to submit his reply, which was approved.
