Turkey conducted successful test of the first domestic made MK-84 air bomb, the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology said in a statement Thursday.
ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th December, 2018) Turkey conducted successful test of the first domestic made MK-84 air bomb, the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology said in a statement Thursday."The first MK-84 air bomb developed by our defense industry was tested on the HABRAS base. The test was observed by the Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank. The air bomb weighing one tonne exceeded the speed of sound by 50 percent and pierced a concrete target of one meter thickness with steel reinforcement," the statement read.
It was a historical test, which had indicated another important success of the Turkish defense industry, Varank wrote on Twitter.
HABRAS test base was opened in the Karapınar district of Konya province in late October with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The purpose of the base is to test weapon systems of Turkish production at the development stage, ammunition before mass production, as well as testing of weapon systems purchased from abroad.
