UAJK holds sixteenth convocation, awards 49 gold medals

The sixteenth convocation of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) was held at newly constructed building of AJK Prime Minister House here on Wednesday

MUZAFFARABAD (Pakistan Point News - 26th December, 2018) The sixteenth convocation of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) was held at newly constructed building of AJK Prime Minister House here on Wednesday. A total of 13696 students were conferred degrees for the successful completion of various graduate, MPhil and PhD programs. This included 49 graduates who won gold medals, while 114 students received their MPhil degree and 20 scholars of different academic disciplines were given doctorate degrees.

The convocation was attended by vice chancellors of AJK public sector universities, members of the cabinet, members of AJK Legislative Assembly, registrar, deans, directors, heads of departments and a large number of students along with their parents. Azad Jammu and Kashmir President and Chancellor of the university, Sardar Masood Khan was the chief guest of the ceremony. The chief guest, President Sardar Masood Khan while expressing his pleasure on the brilliant success of the students congratulated them, their parents and teachers on the successful completion of degrees.

He said it is a rewarding day for the passing out graduates especially for the gold medal winners. “I would like to appreciate and acknowledge the untiring efforts of the faculty which enabled the graduating students not only to succeed but also for attaining distinctions in various academic disciplines”. He urged the university management to take drastic measures to ensure quality education and to establish collaborative linkages with other national and international educational institutions to make up deficiencies in academic and research fields.

The president assured that his office and the government will continue to extend required support and facilitation to the university in its mission of spreading the light of knowledge in every nook and corner of Azad Kashmir. “We will do all within our means to facilitate the university in its endeavour to provide the best possible learning environment to the students for acquiring higher education,” President Masood pledged. Emphasizing on Character education, President Masood said education should be holistic, life giving and character building, adding that education without character and moral values is meaningless.

Referring to situation prevails in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, AJK President said today we are enjoying the blessings of freedom while other part of our state is subjugated by the tyrant India. “We cannot live in peace until occupied part of Kashmir is liberated from the illegal occupation of India,” the president said and urged the students to use social media for raising voice in favour of oppressed brothers and sisters in Occupied Kashmir.

The president also applauded UAJK for holding seminars, conferences and workshops to highlight issues of national significance including the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir in its real perspective. He praised the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Kaleem Abbasi for resolving issues of accreditation of Electrical and Software Engineering that has been pending for a long time. Kaleem Abbasi expressed his profound gratitude to the president and chancellor of the university, Sardar Masood Khan for his immense help to the university to achieve its required standards, and contribution to the national progress. He congratulated the successful students and urged them to broaden their knowledge and skills and use the expertise they have acquired for the progress and prosperity of their motherland and the nation. The Vice Chancellor said that it is matter of great pride that 20 scholars of different departments are being honored with PhD degrees which is a remarkable and significant breakthrough in the educational history of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
