Inflation in Russia in 2018 Reaches 4.2% Exceeding Central Bank's Target - Statistics

Inflation in Russia has reached 4.2 percent from the beginning of the year to Monday, having exceeded the initially set target of the Russian Central Bank, the Federal State Statistics Service said on Wednesday.

While the Russian Central Bank forecast a 4 percent annual inflation rate by the end of 2018 on December 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 20 that he expected inflation in the country to reach 4.1-4.2 percent.

Inflation during the week ending on Monday has reached 0.3 percent for the first time in 2018, after having stood at 0.2 percent for three weeks in a row.

Over the last week, eggs price has increased by 3.5 percent, millet price has grown by 1.6 percent, cooking salt price has grown by 0.9 percent, and cheese price has grown by 0.5 percent. The prices for poultry, sausages, pasteurized milk, butter, sugar, pasta products, and rice have increased by 0.4 percent.

The average increase in fruit and vegetable prices has made 2.6 percent, with the price for cucumbers growing by 8.1 percent, the price for tomatoes growing by 5.4 percent, and the price for cabbage raising by 3.7 percent.

The price for gasoline has remained almost unchanged, while the diesel oil price has grown by 0.1 percent.
