Israeli Air Strikes on Syria Violate Country's Sovereignty, UNSC Resolutions - Moscow

Israeli air strikes on Syria violated the country's sovereignty and UN Security Council resolutions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th December, 2018) Israeli air strikes on Syria violated the country's sovereignty and UN Security Council resolutions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier in the day that six F-16 fighters of the Israeli Air Force had launched an air strike on Syria, thereby creating a direct threat to two passenger aircraft. In response to the strike, Syrian air defenses destroyed 14 out of 16 Israeli bombs. When two Israeli air bombs hit the territory of the logistics center of the 138th brigade of the Syrian army, three Syrian soldiers were wounded.

"We are very much concerned about the fact of the attacks, as well as how they were carried out. There is a gross violation of Syria's sovereignty and provisions of UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 1701," the ministry said.

"It is noteworthy that the air strikes were once again carried out by Israeli aircraft under the cover of civilian aircraft heading to the airports of Damascus and Beirut," it said.

Syrian state news agency SANA reported earlier in the day that the Israeli Air Force had conducted a missile attack on Damascus at night, adding that most of the missiles had been shot down. Three Syrian servicemen were wounded and an ammunition depot was damaged. This attack lasted more than 90 minutes.
