Croatia Studying Russia's Proposal to Develop Gas Infrastructure - Russian Official

The Croatian authorities are considering Russia's proposal to help the republic develop its gas infrastructure and build new hydroelectric and thermal power plants, Russian Ambassador in Croatia Anvar Azimov told Sputnik on Monday.

BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th December, 2018) The Croatian authorities are considering Russia's proposal to help the republic develop its gas infrastructure and build new hydroelectric and thermal power plants, Russian Ambassador in Croatia Anvar Azimov told Sputnik on Monday.

In October 2017, during Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic's official visit to Russia and talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Russia offered to help the country develop its gas infrastructure and build new hydroelectric and thermal power plants.

"It was also proposed that concrete measures for the gas infrastructure development of the Bosanski Brod refinery, which is located in Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina, be taken. Unfortunately, there is a problem related to environmental pollution in the town of Slavonski Brod in Croatia, which neighbors Bosanski Brod [town]... Our offer remains in force, we propose to develop gas infrastructure in Croatia at the full expense of Russian funds. Croatia continues to study our proposal, while they avoid any specific topics of possible interaction," Azimov said.

According to the ambassador, Zagreb expects that Russia will exert all possible efforts to ensure the problem of environmental pollution in Slavonski Brod will be solved next year.

At the same time, according to the embassy's data, a record volume of over 2 billion cubic meters (70.6 billion cubic feet) of Russian gas worth $600 million was supplied to Croatia in 2018.
