MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd December, 2018) The tsunami that hit Indonesia's western coast on Saturday claimed the lives of 168 people, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a representative of the Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), said on Sunday.
"As of 1 p.m. [06:00 a.m. GMT] on Sunday, December 23, 2018, the death toll stands at 168 people," the BNPB representative was quoted by Indonesia's Rakyatku news portal as saying.
According to the news outlet, 30 more people are missing, while a total of 745 individuals sustained injuries.
The western coast of Indonesia was hit by tsunami at 9:27 p.m. local time [14:27 GMT] on Saturday. The rescue operation is ongoing.
