NAB files reference against Shehbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing scam

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 22nd December, 2018) The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif in the Ashiana Housing scam.

NAB has named a total of 13 accused in the reference. These include Shehbaz Sharif, Ahad Cheema and Fawad Hassan Fawad.

The NAB had already filed a reference against Cheema and five others over their alleged role in Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing scam.

The contract for the housing scheme was won by a construction company titled Chaudhry Latif and Sons, but former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif and his aides allegedly awarded the Rs 14 billion contract to Lahore Casa Developers, which was ineligible for the purpose.

Due to alleged illegal cancellation of the contract, the government had to pay damages to the contractor. The cancellation of the contract also delayed the project, resulting in cost escalation in billions of rupees.

Shehbaz Sharif was taken in the custody of NAB on October 5 for his alleged involvement in Rs 14 billion Ashiana Housing Scheme scam.

Later, he was sent to jail on judicial remand.

Senior bureaucrat Fawad Hassan Fawad and Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former director general Ahad Cheema and others had been arrested in connection with the housing scam.

NAB launched an investigation into the scam in November last after receiving a number of complaints.
