Lack Of Western Response To 'Bandera Day' In Ukraine Upsetting - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) The Russian Foreign Ministry regrets that Kiev's Western backers, international organizations, and human rights institutions are not reacting to the Ukrainian parliament's introduction of "Bandera day" to commemorate the late leader of a Ukrainian extremist organization, a statement published on ministry's website said.

"We feel sorry about the lack of proper reaction to all this by Kiev's Western curators, international organizations, and human rights institutions, caring for democratic values," the statement read.

The ministry noted that the adoration of "such wretched historical figures is not only contempt directed at the Ukrainian people," many of whom do not consider Bandera as their "hero," but also an expression of outright contempt toward the numerous victims of his accomplices.

"We hope that the next generation of Ukrainian politicians will be more selective about the interpretation of historical events and will not try to rewrite it to their opportunistic needs, as the current Kiev regime does," the statement read.

The Ukrainian parliament recently announced the commemoration days and anniversaries that will be marked in 2019. Among them included the 110th anniversary of the birth of leader of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (banned in Russia) Stepan Bandera.
