Russia Registered 7 Ceasefire Violations in Syria Over Past 24 Hours - Defense Ministry

The Russian side of the Russian-Turkish commission monitoring the implementation of the Syrian ceasefire has registered 7 truce breaches in the country over the past 24 hours, while Turkey has recorded as many as 13 ceasefire violations, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th December, 2018) The Russian side of the Russian-Turkish commission monitoring the implementation of the Syrian ceasefire has registered 7 truce breaches in the country over the past 24 hours, while Turkey has recorded as many as 13 ceasefire violations, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"Over the last 24 hours, the Russian party of the Russia-Turkey Commission on violations of the Joint Agreement has registered 7 cases of firing in the provinces of Idlib (2), Latakia (4) and Hama (2). The Turkish side has registered 13 cases of ceasefire violations in the provinces of Hama (8), Idlib (2), and Latakia (3)," the ministry said in its daily bulletin.

The number of areas that signed reconciliation agreements has remained the same over the period and currently amounts to 2,518. The number of armed formations claiming that they observe the ceasefire has not changed either and stands at 234.

Russia and Turkey, along with Iran, are the guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria, having signed the Astana agreements on the creation of Syrian de-escalation zones in 2017. Russia has been also assisting Damascus in the reconstruction process and the repatriation of refugees.
