German Cybersecurity Agency Warns Firms About Chinese Hacking Threat - Reports

Germany's Information Security Office (BSI) has warned several German companies that they might be targeted by Chinese hackers, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th December, 2018) Germany's Information Security Office (BSI) has warned several German companies that they might be targeted by Chinese hackers, local media reported.

The list of firms was provided by US partners investigating a hacker group called Cloudhopper that uses cloud services to steal commercial secrets, a German newspaper, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, said.

Companies involved in construction and materials research, engineering, and major commercial enterprises were reportedly the Primary target of cyberattacks.

Hackers broke into IT systems of smaller and far less protected firms providing hosting and cloud services to the industrial giants, and used them to "hop" into client networks to access their data.

The warning to the German cybersecurity authority came through US diplomatic channels ahead of a planned crackdown on China's alleged cyberespionage, part of an escalating trade war between the two powers.
