The United Arab Emirates has joined the Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation, APDSF, as the first Arab country.
DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 18th Dec, 2018) The United Arab Emirates has joined the Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation, APDSF, as the first Arab country.
The announcement was made during the General Assembly meeting of Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation in Colombo, which was attended by the delegation of the Emirates Down Syndrome Association.
The members exchanged knowledge, expertise and the best practices on the areas of the health, education and inclusion for people with Down Syndrome. The total number of APDSF members until today is 18 countries, represented by their Down syndrome non-profit organisations.
Dr. Manal Jaroor, Head of the delegation, Chairperson of Emirates Down Syndrome Association, made a presentation about the association and its main achievements since its establishment and highlighted the national laws, strategies, and policies for People of Determination in UAE, which emphasis the importance of their empowerment and integration.
Dr. Manal also announced the UAE's hosting of the World Down Syndrome Congress Dubai 2020. The Federation expressed its readiness to promote the World Down Syndrome Congress and encouraged all its members to participate.
The Federation was officially announced in March 2017 with its headquarters in Chennai, India. It’s members includes organisations and associations dealing with people with Down Syndrome in their countries and it is composed of three main committees that work on three main areas which are health care, education, and society integration.
