Labour Leader Says To Table Motion Of No Confidence In UK Prime Minister

LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the United Kingdom's main opposition party, Labour, announced his intention on Monday to table a motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Theresa May over her failure to hold a vote on the Brexit deal.

A week ago, May said she was delaying the vote on the Brexit deal in the House of Commons, originally slated for Tuesday, amid lawmakers' concerns over the Irish border backstop. Corbyn said the UK government was in disarray and out of control after May's announcement.

"It is disgraceful that a month has been wasted since we were due to vote on 11th December ... The only way I can think of ensuring a vote takes place this week, I'm about to table a motion [of no confidence against May] ... That will be tabled immediately," Corbyn said.

Now the parliamentarians will have to discuss Corbyn's proposal and decide whether to support him.

On Tuesday, several opposition parties told the Labour in a letter that they would back the official opposition should they bring forward a motion of no confidence in the government. On Wednesday, May survived a no-confidence vote called by members of her own Conservative Party 200 parliamentarians backed May while 117 lawmakers voted against her.
