Sindh govt to fix fare of Qingqi Rickshaws

275 unregistered Qingqi rickshaws have been banned in the city.

Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 17th December, 2018) A summary to fix the fare of Qingqi (Chingchi) Rickshaws has been sent to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Transportation Minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah said that crackdown against illegal Chingchi rickshaws is underway in Karachi and a summary to fix the fare of these rickshaws has been sent to the chief minister.

The provincial minister said that a suggestion to fix a fare of Rs 10-15 on a distance of 6 kilometres has been given.

Moreover, 275 unregistered Chingchi rickshaws have been banned in the city.

Meanwhile, the unauthorised auto-rickshaw stands along roads are not only hampering smooth flow of vehicular traffic but also creating problems for pedestrians.

Auto-rickshaws can be seen parked in zigzag way while the authorities concerned and traffic police only play the role of silent spectators.

The Supreme Court had in March, 2017 allowed motorcycle rickshaws, popularly known as Qingqi rickshaws, which were manufactured by registered companies.

A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed in its order directed: "Besides approved Qingqi rickshaws, no other rickshaws shall be allowed to operate."

The rickshaws are considered dangerous as they often overturn while manoeuvring sharp turns. The government had launched Metro Bus, Green Bus, and Orange Line transport services across the country, but the Qingqi rickshaws remained unregulated until long.
