Russia Calls on US to Promptly Release Butina, Respect Rights - Foreign Ministry

Moscow calls on Washington to respect detained Russian national Maria Butina's legitimate rights and to immediately release her, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) Moscow calls on Washington to respect detained Russian national Maria Butina's legitimate rights and to immediately release her, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

"We again call on Washington to ensure her [Butina's] legitimate rights and to promptly release her from prison," Zakharova said at a briefing, noting that Butina was a civil society representative and was not engaged in any suspicious activity.

Russian authorities have criticized the US government for arresting Butina, insisting that the charges against her are groundless. The Russian Foreign Ministry has said the charges against Butina were trumped-up and has called her ongoing detention unacceptable.
