Over 1,200 Syrians Return to Homeland From Abroad Over Past 24 Hours - Refugee Center

More than 1,200 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from Jordan and Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) More than 1,200 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from Jordan and Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Thursday.

"Over the past 24 hours, a total of 1,259 refugees returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from the territory of foreign states: 174 people (52 women and 89 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh checkpoints; 1,085 people (326 women and 553 children) returned from Jordan via the Nassib checkpoint," the center said in its daily bulletin.

According to the bulletin, 221 internally displaced Syrians returned to their homes in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Damascus over the period. Another 31 people got back to Eastern Ghouta.

Syrian engineering units have cleared of mines 12 hectares (29.6 acres) of land in Homs, Damascus and Quneitra provinces, destroying 33 explosive devices, the center added.

As most of the heavy fighting in Syria is now over and the war is nearing its end, the Syrian government has started welcoming back Syrians who were forced to flee the armed conflict and seek asylum in other countries. According to the refugee center, a total of 63,797 refugees have returned to Syria from abroad since July 18.
