MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) Mass cyberattacks involving WannaCry, NotPetya, and BadRabbit viruses hit almost 100 countries in 2017, and over 500,000 computers have been affected, with over 60 percent of those in Russia, Nikolai Murashov, deputy director of the Russian National Cyberthreat Response Center, said on Tuesday.

"The epidemics of encrypting viruses WannaCry, NotPetya, and BadRabbit hit almost 100 countries in 2017. Over half a million computers were affected, including over 60 percent of those in Russia," Murashov said at a briefing.

He specified that private users had suffered most, while certain key objects of the Russian information infrastructure had been affected as well.

"These encrypting viruses were fundamentally different ... The attackers used encrypting methods that made decrypting of information by means of modern calculators impossible. These attacks aimed at damaging operation of information systems," Murashov explained.
