Afghan Security Forces Kill Senior Taliban Commander in Northern Province - Reports

Senior Taliban commander Mullah Nusrat was killed after clashing with Afghan security forces in the northern Faryab province, local media reported Monday, citing the 209th Corps of the Afghan army.

Besides Nusrat, 11 other Taliban members were been killed in the Hab Baza area of the Dawlatbad district, the Khaama Press news Agency reported.

The media outlet added that at least 15 others militants were injured during the clash. Afghan forces also managed to seize the militants' weapons during the confrontation. No casualties have been reported among either the security forces or local residents.

The Taliban movement is a major force fighting Kabul for control over the country. The group managed to seize power in the middle of the 1990s before being overthrown in 2001.
