Armenian Acting Prime Minister Pashinyan Casts Vote In Early Parliamentary Elections

YEREVAN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th December, 2018) Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has cast his vote in the parliamentary elections that are being held in the country on Sunday.

Pashinyan voted at the 8/16 polling station located in Yerevan's 133rd preschool. A large number of observers and journalists gathered at this polling station. During his presence the polling station was not closed for other citizens and they could freely vote.

On Sunday, snap parliamentary elections are being held in Armenia for the first time in the country's history. Two blocks and nine parties take part in them. There is no turnout threshold, however, to enter the parliament, a party must secure more than 5 percent of the vote and alliances must get over 7 percent. At the same time, according to the law, at least three political forces must be represented in parliament.

The front-runners for parliamentary seats stand for the development of relations with Russia. The alliance of acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan promises to ensure further development of relations with Russia based on equality and mutual respect for national interests. The main priorities of Prosperous Armenia party also include Eurasian integration and relations with Russia. The former ruling Republican Party of Armenia traditionally calls for strengthening cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries.
