US, Canada Not Provided Proof Arrested Huawei Executive Violated Law Yet - Beijing

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) The United States and Canada have not provided any evidence that recently arrested Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou had violated the laws of these two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said on Friday.

"All I can say is that as of today, neither the Canadian nor the US side has provided any evidence of these countries laws violation by the arrested individual," Geng said at a briefing.

Meng was arrested in the Canadian city of Vancouver last Saturday at the US request on suspicion of violating US sanctions against Iran.

The Chinese Embassy in Canada has expressed its protest over the arrest of Meng, calling it a violation of human rights.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on Ottawa to immediately release Meng.

Huawei, in its turn, said it was unaware of any wrongdoing on the part of its chief financial officer.
