European Economic Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said Tuesday he welcomed Italy's change of tone in the row over its 2019 spending plans but stressed he was waiting for concrete steps.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th December, 2018) European Economic Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said Tuesday he welcomed Italy's change of tone in the row over its 2019 spending plans but stressed he was waiting for concrete steps."We clearly see a different tone, a will to cooperate. We also see that Italian authorities are available to listen to our point of view and try to solve the problems. This is welcome," he told reporters.
He said he had very positive discussions last week with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in Buenos Aires, after the Commission rejected Italy's draft budget over a big deficit target.
Brussels has taken note of Italy's recent announcement it wanted to reduce budget deficit, Moscovici said. He called it "one step in the right direction" but stressed more concrete commitments were expected.
