Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 4th December, 2018) The Supreme Court (SC) has formed a larger bench in the Model Town case upon the request of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

The five-member larger bench will be headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar and comprises Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Mazhar Alam.

The will begin hear the case from Wednesday.

The court has issued notices to the concerned parties in the case.

Notices have also been issued to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, former provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah, former Federal interior minister Ch Nisar, former defence minister Khawaja Asif, Abid Sher Ali, Parvaiz Rasheed, attorney general and Punjab advocate general.

Earlier on Nov 19, the Supreme Court had constituted a larger bench to establish a new joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the Model Town case.

A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard a petition at the Supreme Court's Lahore Registry about formation of a new JIT to probe the Model Town case.

During the proceedings, PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri appeared before the bench and said that "zero progress has been made in our case since the indictment of former Punjab IG Mushtaq Sukhera."

He requested that another JIT be formed to re-investigate the case. However, former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif's counsel Azam Tarar appeared on his behalf and sought additional time from the court for case preparation.

The court then formed a larger bench for the constitution of a new JIT to probe the case.
