Pompeo To Discuss Georgia, Ukraine At NATO Ministerial In Brussels - US State Department

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd December, 2018) US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo will travel to Brussels on Monday to take part in a NATO ministerial in which foreign ministers are set to discuss the alliance's cooperation with Georgia and Ukraine, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said on Monday.

"Secretary Pompeo will participate in the semi-annual meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers to review progress made in implementing the agenda agreed by NATO Heads of State and Government at the Brussels Summit in July," Nauert said in a statement.� "Ministers will also discuss transatlantic security issues, as well as NATO operations and partnerships, including NATO's deepening relationship with critical partners Georgia and Ukraine. "

At the meeting, Pompeo expects to renew the US call on its partners to increase their military spending to the level of 2 percent of GDP by 2024 and to invest 20 percent of that in major equipment, Nauert said.

While in Belgium, Pompeo will meet with local senior officials to discuss bilateral cooperation on major issues, including nonproliferation, Nauert added.
