Number of Russians With Negative Attitude Toward US Up 12% From January 2017 - Poll

The number of Russians who feel negatively about the United States has increased by 12 percent in comparison with the results from a January 2017 survey, with the proportion now standing at 34 percent, a fresh poll by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) said on Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th November, 2018) The number of Russians who feel negatively about the United States has increased by 12 percent in comparison with the results from a January 2017 survey, with the proportion now standing at 34 percent, a fresh poll by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) said on Friday.

At the same time, the share of Russians with a positive attitude toward Washington has halved from last year to 11 percent, the survey indicated.

Fifty percent of respondents said they were indifferent in their attitude toward the United States, according to the new poll.

As for the current state of Russian-US relations, 51 percent of respondents called it "bad," which is 11 percentage points lower than what was recorded in July 2015. Only 4 percent of those surveyed said that the Russian-US ties were currently at a good level � this figure stood at 7 percent in 2015.

Moreover, 68 percent of Russians said that Washington played a negative role in the world, while only 7 percent thought the opposite.

Fifty-three percent of those surveyed thought that both Russia and the United States should be interested in maintaining good relations, with 63 percent also saying that the Russian leadership should seek rapprochement.

The poll was held among 1,500 people on November 24-25 in 104 localities across Russia. The margin error does not exceed 3.6 percent.
