Ecuadorian Prosecutor General Office Probes Bribe Charges Against Vice President - Reports

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th November, 2018) Ecuador's acting Attorney General Ruth Palacios said that a criminal investigation into the bribe accusations against country's Vice President Maria Alejandra Vicuna had been launched, local media reported.

According to the Comercio media outlet, Vicuna is accused by her former adviser Angel Sagbay that in 2011 - 2013, when she was a member of the country's National Assembly, she took bribes from people, who wanted to take particular posts.

Vicuna is said to have demanded monthly payments of $300-1,400 calling them a mandatory contribution for her political movement.

Vicuna was appointed vice president in October 2017 replacing Jorge Glas, who resigned over a corruption scandal and was later sentenced to six years in jail.
