Russia's Lavrentyev to Head Country's Delegation to Astana Talks on Syria- Kazakh Ministry

The Russian delegation that is set to attend the upcoming consultations on the Syrian settlement in Astana, Kazakhstan will be led by Russia's Special Presidential Representative for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentyev, Director of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's Asia and Africa Department Aidarbek Tumatov said on Tuesday.

ASTANA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th November, 2018) The Russian delegation that is set to attend the upcoming consultations on the Syrian settlement in Astana, Kazakhstan will be led by Russia's Special Presidential Representative for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentyev, Director of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's Asia and Africa Department Aidarbek Tumatov said on Tuesday.

The meeting on Syrian settlement in the Astana format is set to be held on Wednesday and Thursday in the Kazakh capital. The consultations are expected to be attended by the guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire � Russia, Turkey and Iran � delegations representing Damascus and the country's armed opposition along with Jordan as observer.

"The Russian delegation will be headed by Russia's Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev," Tumatov told journalists.

According to the diplomat, the Turkish side to the talks will be represented by the country's deputy foreign minister, Sedat Onal, while the Iranian delegation will be led by Hossein Jaberi Ansari, the foreign minister's special assistant in political affairs.

Tumatov added that the first day of the talks would see bilateral and trilateral consultations among experts along with the sixth meeting of the working group on the release of detainees and the search for missing people and bodies of the deceased. Representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been invited to attend the working group's meeting, according to the diplomat.

The plenary meeting, bringing together all participants, is scheduled for Thursday.
