MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th November, 2018) The first group of 98 migrants from Central American countries are being deported from Mexico on Monday after their attempt to storm the border between Mexico and the United States, Gerardo Garcia Benavente, the commissioner of the Mexican National Institute of Migration, said.

On Sunday, a group of around 500 migrants attempted to storm the US border from the Mexican city of Tijuana. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) service said that several asylum seekers had thrown projectiles at the border patrol, which prompted the US authorities to use tear gas to disperse the crowd. Media reported that the CBP also fired rubber bullets at the migrants.

"I hope that they will not try any more [to storm the US border]," the official told the Formula radio station and noted that the group was already on its way to the border with Guatemala.

According to the Mexican Foreign Ministry, over 8,200 migrants from Central American countries have reached Mexico, with around 7,400 of them staying near the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali, located right on the border with the United States. Around 2,000 of the migrants have agreed to return to their countries of origin with the help of the Mexican authorities.
