Says the justice system in Pakistan needs some reforms so that speedy justice can be ensured to the people.
Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 22nd November, 2018) Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has said that it would be a failure for Pakistani government if Asia Bibi seeks an asylum abroad and shifts there along with her family.
Speaking to Pakistan-based-British Parliament members in London on Thursday, the CJP lamented the delay in Asia Bibi case.
British Members of Parliament Syeda Warsi and Rehman Chishti raised a question over Asia Bibi’s case. To this, the CJP said that the justice system in Pakistan needs some reforms so that speedy justice can be ensured to the people.
When Syeda Warsi talked about giving political asylum to Asia Bibi in London, the CJP said that she should not be given asylum, terming it a failure of Pakistani state. He said that the government is responsible for protecting the lives of the citizens.
He said that the Pakistani government would have to take strict measures regarding this. Otherwise, such cases will never end.
“Asia bibi should be given protection in Pakistan. The incumbent government is responsible for her security,” he said.
On a question regarding putting Asia Bibi’s name in the Exit Control List (ECL), the CJP said that the law does not allow this.
He said that the judiciary will not issue any verdict that is in contradiction with the laws of the judiciary.
