Israel Security Cabinet Directs Army to 'Act as Needed'

Israel's security cabinet has left operations against Palestinian militants in the Gaza enclave to the discretion of the military, after meeting for hours on Tuesday.

TEL AVIV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) Israel's security cabinet has left operations against Palestinian militants in the Gaza enclave to the discretion of the military, after meeting for hours on Tuesday.

"The cabinet... was briefed by the army command and security officers on large-scale actions against terrorist elements in Gaza and instructed the army to continue them as needed," the statement read.

Violence between Israel and the Hamas militant group running Gaza rose Monday after a Hamas commander was killed in a covert Israeli operation. An Israeli officer also died in the ensuing gunfight.

Militants have since fired over 400 rockets into southern Israel, prompting the Israel fighter jets to attack a hundred targets in the Gaza Strip. Both sides suffered casualties.
