Gazprom-Naftogaz Dispute Not Hindering Wintershall From Funding Nord Stream 2 -Wintershall

The judicial dispute between Russian energy giant Gazprom and Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz does not hinder German energy company Wintershall from pouring funds into the Nord Stream 2 project, Wintershall CEO Mario Mehren told reporters on Tuesday.

ABU DHABI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) The judicial dispute between Russian energy giant Gazprom and Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz does not hinder German energy company Wintershall from pouring funds into the Nord Stream 2 project, Wintershall CEO Mario Mehren told reporters on Tuesday.

"The dispute between Gazprom and Naftogaz does not influence our participation in the funding of the Nord Stream 2," Mehren said.

Nord Stream 2 is a joint venture of Gazprom and five European companies France's Engie, Austria's OMV AG, UK-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, and Germany's Uniper and Wintershall. The project envisages the construction of two gas pipelines that will run from Russia, through the Baltic Sea and to a hub in Germany, bypassing Ukraine entirely. It aims to deliver 55 billion cubic meters (1.9 trillion cubic feet) of Russian natural gas to the EU states every year. A new pipeline is planned to be built next to the existing Nord Stream.

On November 9, Gazprom said that a Swiss court had banned any payments by the operators of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines to Gazprom at the request of Naftogaz.

The Court of Appeal of Svea County in Sweden will hold on November 27 preliminary hearings on Gazprom's appeal against Stockholm arbitration court rulings in its gas dispute with Naftogaz, according to Gazprom.
