OSCE Says 'No Limits' Set on Freedom of Expression of Russian Journalist Questioned in US

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is looking into the questioning of Russian journalist Alexander Malkevich in the United States, but it believes that his freedom of expression has not been curbed in any way, Harlem Desir, the organization's representative on Freedom of the Media, said Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th November, 2018) The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is looking into the questioning of Russian journalist Alexander Malkevich in the United States, but it believes that his freedom of expression has not been curbed in any way, Harlem Desir, the organization's representative on Freedom of the Media, said Monday.

Malkevich, who is a member of the Russian Civic Chamber and the head of the USA Really news outlet, was detained at an airport in Washington on November 9 and questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) regarding his journalistic activities.

"Looking into it, but it does not seem for @OSCE_RFOM. Reportedly, briefly detained on his way out of #USA, but not denied entry. No limits placed on his freedom of expression, media outlet not blocked," Desir said on Twitter in response to a post by Russia's Permanent Mission to the OSCE.

Malkevich, who has already left the United States, told Sputnik that he had covered the November 6 midterm elections in the country as a journalist.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has said the detention of the journalist was deeply concerning. The US Department of Justice has declined to comment on the situation.
