French President Macron Calls For Unity In Fighting Global Challenges

PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th November, 2018) French President Emmanuel Macron called for "adding up hopes, rather than countering fears" when addressing all the pressing international issues in his speech at the World War I centenary commemoration ceremony in Paris.

"Let's add up our hopes, rather than counter our fears against each other. Together we can avert the threats from global warming, poverty, hunger, diseases, inequalities and ignorance. We have engaged in this fight, and we can win it ... Denying this hope, being attracted by withdrawal, violence and domination would be a mistake before the future generations," Macron said.

The French president went on to call for unity and multilateralism in tackling the challenges of the future and recalled that France was always a carrier of the "universal values."

"The contrary to the egoism of people which only care about their own interests, as patriotism is just the contrary to nationalism: nationalism is a treason," Macron underlined.

Over 60 heads of state and government have gathered in Paris on Sunday for a military parade and a peace forum organized by Macron marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
