Local Press: A pioneering way to honour UAE feats

UAE newspaper has said that when it comes to talent promotion and intellectual stimulation, the UAE has its own distinctive style.

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2018) A UAE newspaper has said that when it comes to talent promotion and intellectual stimulation, the UAE has its own distinctive style.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, not only believes that the future will be for those who dare to take new paths, but he also translates words into deeds. The result is a modern, vibrant country that presents a model the entire world would love to emulate.

The fact that the social media campaign, www.uaepioneers.ae, received more than 4,000 entries in less than 24 hours following its launch by Sheikh Mohammed reveals the enthusiasm of the nation when it comes to development and progress.

"The idea behind the campaign is to honour UAE national achievements in line with the UAE National Day and 'Year of Zayed' celebrations," said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Friday.

On 1st December, 2014, in conjunction with the 43rd UAE National Day celebrations, Sheikh Mohammed recognised 43 Emiratis with The UAE Pioneers Award. The award was given in honour of their service to the nation and their pioneering spirit and for being the first in their field.

The awards were the culmination of a social media initiative that was launched with a tweet from Sheikh Mohammed’s Twitter account in November 2014.

The hashtag campaign prompted Emiratis to nominate fellow countrymen and women who they believed were pioneers in their respective fields.

The social media campaign galvanised the community, with nominations rolling in from all segments of the Emirati society. Within two weeks there were more than 137,000 entries, all nominated with the hashtag #UAE_Pioneers.

This year, interestingly, the idea is to celebrate the UAE’s pioneers in a different way. "We will not celebrate people, we will celebrate achievements. We will celebrate the projects that would leave a mark in the history of the UAE. Cultural, social, economic, scientific and infrastructure projects that will leave their mark on the march of our country," Sheikh Mohammed has suggested.

The directives by Sheikh Mohammed have shed clear light on national projects that reflect Zayed’s development journey during his life and his approach that has become a characteristic of the United Arab Emirates.

Incidentally, the hashtag #UAE_Pioneers has so far been used over 1.5 million times, making it one of the most trendy social media hashtags in the UAE.

"Campaigns like www.uaepioneers.ae go a long way in encouraging pioneers to commit themselves to innovative projects, adding great value to nation building," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
