"As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated in Thousand Oaks, California, on November 7, 2018 ... I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House," the proclamation said.
The US flag on public buildings, military and naval posts and all Federal naval vessels, at embassies, legations and consular offices should also be lowered at half-staff, the White House added.
On Wednesday night, a man whom the authorities identified as Marine veteran Ian Long, killed 12 people at the Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks. Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said during a press conference on Thursday that the shooter is dead and likely killed himself.
