Italian Government Halts Plans to Introduce Pantheon Entry Charge - Reports

Italian authorities have halted plans to start charging visitors to Rome's Pantheon a 2-euro entrance fee, local media reported on Wednesday.

ROME (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th November, 2018) Italian authorities have halted plans to start charging visitors to Rome's Pantheon a 2-euro entrance fee, local media reported on Wednesday.

The entry to one of the world's most remarkable ancient buildings will remain free, according to Il Messaggero newspaper.

Meanwhile, the Italian Ministry of Culture refused to comment on the media reports, calling them an "unverified leak" in a commentary to Sputnik.

In December, the Culture Ministry and the Vicariate of Rome reached an agreement that the "temple of all gods" would start charging entry fee from May 2018 unless the visitors were going there to pray.

The ministry reportedly said that the entry fee would be used to "help maintenance costs and guarantee better security during visits."
