US President Donald Trump said during a press conference on Tuesday that he has not ruled out a government shutdown because of disagreements with Democrats over funding the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico.
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th November, 2018) US President Donald Trump said during a press conference on Tuesday that he has not ruled out a government shutdown because of disagreements with Democrats over funding the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico.
"I cannot commit to that," Trump said when asked if it is possible to eliminate "a shutdown scenario."
Trump noted many Democrats agree that building a border wall is necessary. The US president added that his decision to build the border wall is to protect the United States from illegal immigrants.
In January 2017, Trump delivered on his signature campaign pledge and signed an executive order that initiated the process of building the border wall. Trump seeks that Congress approves at least $5 billion in funding to construct the border wall.
