MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th November, 2018) Spain will do all it can to help its companies operating in Iran to dodge US sanctions, Foreign Minister Josep Borrell promised on Monday.
A new batch of sanctions on Iran's oil trade, shipping and banking came into being on Monday. The United States told foreign firms to stop doing business in the country or face penalties.
"Spain's stance matches that of the EU in that we disagree with the US unilateral move on Iran and will do everything to help Spanish companies to continue operating in the country," he told reporters.
The European Union has been working together with Russia and China to set up a mechanism, called a "special purpose vehicle," to allow trading with Iran. The bloc has also vowed to shield companies conducting lawful business with Iran from US fines.
