ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 04th Nov, 2018) Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam, has said that the UAE government has worked with the International Fund for Houbara Conservation, IFHC, to save the Houbara bustard from extinction.
"We are here today to talk [about] one of the conservation success stories of the world, the Houbara bustard, [where] we look at ways in which this strong story of conservation can also be spread across the region and the world," he told the Emirates news Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the Conservation Through Government Action Summit, held on Sunday at Jumeirah Etihad Towers. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, opened the summit attended by over 70 delegates representing 17 countries.
He said that the UAE has worked extensively with the fund for Houbara conservation, via very organised scientific procedures, and is now going to be assisted by sixteen range countries that this species of bird visits. "We are here to talk about this cooperation," Aslam said, adding that parties attending the conference want to learn more about the conservation efforts undertaken over the past 40 years.
Aslam went on to say, that the Houbara conservation efforts have witness a remarkable journey and it has brought up many good scientific lessons for conservation of species across the world. According to the Advisor, the conservation programme was very informative and summit attendees have learnt quite a number of things about the Houbara bustard, including methods to ensure the future protection of the species.
At the summit, speakers from the Fund set out Abu Dhabi’s record on conserving the Houbara and highlighted the challenges, which remain to achieve a sustainable future for the species in the wild.
Head of the middle East and African Countries Desk Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Habibi Nabi also thanked the UAE providing an opportunity to attend such an event. "The programme was very informative, we learnt a lot of things about the Houbara, we also learnt how to keep protecting the bird in the future, we thank organisers for inviting Afghanistan to be part of this programme."
