ADM holds workshop on public drinking water

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has organised a public health awareness workshop for commercial establishments operating public drinking water facilities.

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2018) The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has organised a public health awareness workshop for commercial establishments operating public drinking water facilities.

The workshop explained the process of registering establishments and ensuring compliance with quality standards. The step is being taken in line with Resolution No. 26 of 2018 regarding the public health and the safety of water tanks in Abu Dhabi, and Resolution No. 139 of 2018 regarding the health and safety of drinking water coolers.

The workshop also tackled periodic cleaning and operations of these vital facilities. The main purpose of registering commercial establishments is to ensure that the services are provided by qualified and trained technical staffs to protect the community from drinking polluted water.

The registration is done through submitting a detailed treatment scheme to the municipality explaining all procedures to be taken by the commercial establishment in the event of any pollution in the water. It also involves providing medical fitness certificates for workers to ensure they are free from any occupational diseases. It calls for taking necessary measures to separate cleaning equipment and operating of water coolers and swimming pools in case the entity provides other services such as the cleaning of sanitary, chemical or hazardous materials, and petroleum derivatives. It also applies to other aspects such as the operation of swimming pools and the cleaning of drinking water tanks.

The municipality called upon officials and cleaners of drinking water tanks to take all measures and precautions to prevent the contamination of these tanks besides maintaining, cleaning and replacing them in case of damage.

The municipality inspects water tanks of residential buildings, especially if a complaint is received from a resident. It also organises awareness campaigns and workshops aimed at educating owners of residential buildings and the maintenance of their establishments. The aim is to brief them about the correct, scientific and healthy hygienic procedures of cleaning drinking water tanks and the use of filters. It also urged them to take samples from tanks to ensure that the water is sound and fit for consumption.

In the event of drinking water contamination, the municipality recommends implementing the approved treatment plan. It also calls for taking all scientific procedures for improving the quality of drinking water, addressing the sources of water contamination, and removing any potential pollution factors. Fresh samples have to be taken of the same water for re-testing in laboratories to ensure it is sound and free from contamination.
