Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania Prepare Joint Bid to Host 2030 FIFA World Cup - Reports

Heads of Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania intend to prepare a joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, local media reported Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd November, 2018) Heads of Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania intend to prepare a joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, local media reported Friday.

The agreement between the leaders of the four Balkan states was reached earlier in the day on the sidelines of a summit in Bulgaria's Varna, after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras made a respective proposal based on the aspiration of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, according to the Kathimerini newspaper.

"I think it is worth discussing the proposal of Tsipras," Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said, as quoted by the media.

In 2017, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay announced that they would bid for hosting the 2030 World Cup. The three South American states also said that they expected the "historical justice to be served" because 2030 would mark the 100th anniversary of the first ever world football tournament that was held in South America.

In July, Egypt's Youth and sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy said that his country also planned to contend for hosting the tournament.
