Crashed Lion Air Jet Black Box Found, Being Transported to Safety Committee - Spokesperson

The crash survivable memory unit (CSMU) of the black box from the Lion Air Boeing 737 Max airplane that crashed off the west coast of Java, Indonesia, has been recovered and is being transported to the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT),

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st November, 2018) The crash survivable memory unit (CSMU) of the black box from the Lion Air Boeing 737 Max airplane that crashed off the west coast of Java, Indonesia, has been recovered and is being transported to the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), a spokesperson for the KNKT told Sputnik on Thursday.

"Yes it is CSMU [has been recovered]. The black box is still on the way to KNKT," the spokesperson said.

It is still unknown whether the found black box is the flight data recorder, or the cockpit voice recorder, the KNKT spokesperson added.

Flight JT610 of Indonesian Lion Air airline, heading for the Indonesian city of Pangkal Pinang, lost contact with the traffic control at 6:33 a.m. local time on Monday (23:33 GMT on Sunday) shortly after departure from the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. Later, it turned out that the Boeing 737 Max fell into the Java Sea, leaving 189 people dead.

The investigation into the plane crash is underway.
