MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st October, 2018) The Russian center for Syrian reconciliation was planning a humanitarian mission to the Rukban refugee camp located in the US-controlled At Tanf area, but the action was thwarted due to a threat of being attacked, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, said on Wednesday.
"On October 27, a humanitarian convoy with food and medicines with cargo weight of more than 450 tonnes was sent to the Rukban camp. However, the convoy was once again thwarted due to the threat of being attacked within the 55-kilometer [34-mile] zone controlled by the United States," the official said.
According to Konashenkov, the humanitarian catastrophe in the Syrian At Tanf has been "artificially maintained for years by the US side in order to preserve steady flow of recruits from the number of refugees from the Rukban camp to the armed groups that regularly sabotage the Syrian government forces in the neighboring areas."
