Food security MoU signed

Mariam Hareb Almheiri, Minister of State for Food Security, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Al Dahra Holding, a leading Abu Dhabi-based agricultural company, at its headquarters, as part of the UAE Government’s efforts to promote partnerships and realise the national strategic goal of achieving food security.

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 31st Oct, 2018) Mariam Hareb Almheiri, Minister of State for Food Security, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Al Dahra Holding, a leading Abu Dhabi-based agricultural company, at its headquarters, as part of the UAE Government’s efforts to promote partnerships and realise the national strategic goal of achieving food security.

According to the MoU, both sides will strengthen their cooperation on a range of key issues, such as promoting research and development related to food security and raising the level of awareness and education regarding the needs of the local market, as well as adopting the best innovations to improve efficiency and sustainability.

Al Dahra will also manufacture nutritionally-balanced products, according to the "Healthy Plate" model adopted by the Office for Future Food Security, which aims to create a balanced nutritional standard for UAE residents.

"The international stature of Al Dahra, which is a leading player in the country’s food production sector, makes it a key partner of the Office for Future Food Security. Through deepening our joint cooperation and unifying our efforts, we can create an ideal future food security strategy, by working together, exchanging relevant knowledge and expertise, and determining the main requirements for food security, which will enable us to find the best means of producing healthy and sustainable food for the Emirati community in the future," Almheiri said.

Khadim Al Darei, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Al Dahra, said that the company has, since its establishment, consistently improved the country’s sustainability and food security, through many successful local and international projects related to planting, producing and trading in animal feed, meat and basic food supplies, as well as managing the supply chain from the beginning to the end.

During the signing of the MoU, both sides highlighted the additional benefits that will result from the agreement. Al Dahra will also provide storage and treatment facilities, including its silos at the strategically-located Fujairah Port.

Al Dahra operates and manages a land bank of about 400,000 acres of owned and leased lands in diversified geographies across the globe for the farming and cultivation of various human food, including dairy and poultry products, and animal feed crops. Rich and diversified food portfolio can support the national food security strategy and significantly contribute to supply 16 foods specified by the Office's ''Healthy Plate" model
