Trump's Move to Send Military Troops to US-Mexico Border Not Election Ploy - Pence

The Trump administration's decision to send more than 5,000 military troops to protect the southern border from an approaching caravan of migrants is not merely an election ploy, US Vice President Mike Pence said in an interview on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) The Trump administration's decision to send more than 5,000 military troops to protect the southern border from an approaching caravan of migrants is not merely an election ploy, US Vice President Mike Pence said in an interview on Tuesday.

When asked by Politico whether the decision to send troops to the border was part of an election plot meant to affect next week's midterm polls, Pence responded, "It is not."

Last week, the advocacy group Human Rights Fight said the decision by President Donald Trump to send troops to the border was an attempt to create a false emergency to influence the outcome of the upcoming vote.

The said civilian border enforcement personnel are able to do their job, so sending the military simply furthers a partisan agenda.

The United Nations has said the migrant caravan includes approximately 7,000 people. But on Thursday, Mexican law enforcement officials said the caravan has dwindled to just 3,630 people after 1,750 migrants requested asylum in Mexico.
