Russian Court Sentences Hacker Group Member to 5 Years in Jail for $15Mln Theft- Statement

A Yekaterinburg court sentenced Igor Makovkin, one of the members of a hacker group that stole 1.2 billion rubles ($15.2 million), to five years in prison, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said Tuesday.

YEKATERINBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) A Yekaterinburg court sentenced Igor Makovkin, one of the members of a hacker group that stole 1.2 billion rubles ($15.2 million), to five years in prison, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said Tuesday.

"A Yekaterinburg court has sentenced Igor Makovkin to a penalty of 5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony ... The investigation is ongoing regarding the remaining members of the criminal community," the statement reads.

In 2015-2016, the hacker group made malicious software, with the help of which they gained access to accounts of clients of different banks, stealing 1.2 billion rubles, the prosecutors said.

Makovkin and other members of the group also got unauthorized access to the computer database of Koltsovo International Airport, according to the statement.
