Irish Presidential Election To Take Place Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) Ireland will go to the polls on Friday for a presidential election, with six candidates, including incumbent Michael Daniel Higgins, seeking a seven-year term.

It is the first time since 1966 when the incumbent head of state is seeking re-election.

Among other candidates, there is a member of the European Parliament and a candidate from the Sinn Fein party, Liadh Ni Riada, and four independent candidates - Peter Casey, Gavin Duffy, Joan Freeman, and Sean Gallagher.

The inauguration of the winner will be held in Dublin Castle on November 11.
