De Mistura To Brief UN Security Council On Syrian Talks Outcome Friday - Russian Diplomat

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th October, 2018) UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will inform Friday the members of the UN Security Council of the outcome of his talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, which was held earlier in the week, Fedor Strzhizhovskiy, the head of he public relation section of the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations, told Sputnik on Thursday.

"De Mistura's briefing will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. [13:00 GMT]," Strzhizhovskiy said.

According to Strzhizhovskiy, the briefing at the UN Security Council will be held in the format of an open meeting with the council's member states.

On Wednesday, de Mistura met with Muallem in Damascus. Following the talks, the UN special envoy said that he had had intensive negotiations with Muallem on the composition of the Syrian constitutional commission and pledged to brief UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the meeting's outcome.

The decision to set up the Syrian constitutional committee was agreed upon in January, during the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in the Russian resort city of Sochi. Currently, UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura is working on creating a special committee in Geneva that will be tasked with preparing a constitutional reform. According to experts, de Mistura might convene the Syrian Constitutional Commission before his resignation that will take place in late November.
