Rights Group Demands Details On US Government's Use Of Amazon Surveillance Tool - Filing

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th October, 2018) The US Homeland Security Department must release records regarding its use of Amazon.com's facial recognition technology, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said in an information request.

"The ACLU... subMIT(s) this Freedom of Information Act ("FOIA") request seeking the disclosure of records related to the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) use or assessment of Amazon 'Rekognition' and other face recognition technology," the document said on Wednesday.

US security agencies, the ACLU said, cannot use face recognition technology for immigration or law enforcement because Congress has never approved its use.

The ACLU is concerned that the technology Amazon has been peddling would be used to "terrorize" immigrant communities in the United States.
