CEO of Italian Eni Energy Giant Discusses Joint Projects With Rosneft - Spokesperson

CEO of Italian energy giant Eni Claudio Descalzi has discussed joint projects with Igor Sechin, the CEO of Russia's Rosneft, a spokesperson of the Italian company told Sputnik on Wednesday.

ROME (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th October, 2018) CEO of Italian energy giant Eni Claudio Descalzi has discussed joint projects with Igor Sechin, the CEO of Russia's Rosneft, a spokesperson of the Italian company told Sputnik on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, an employee of the Russian government's Executive Office said that Eni has pulled out of its joint Black Sea shelf project with Rosneft, while the temporary suspension of another Eni-Rosneft venture on the Barents Sea shelf is currently under discussion. The Italian giant in response said that it will not comment "the rumors."

"The meeting was held on the eve in Moscow, it was very cordial and provided an opportunity to discuss joint projects, such as the large Zohr field in Egypt and possible future scenarios, which, of course, will fully comply with international rules," the spokesperson said.

In May 2017, Rosneft and Eni signed a deal to expand cooperation on oil production. The document reinforced the companies' previous agreements, specifically those concerning offshore drilling in the Black and Barents seas. In addition, the parties agreed to consider further expanding their international cooperation.

In mid-May, media reports emerged that the US sanctions against Russia called into question Eni's possibilities to finance oil projects with Rosneft, while the Eni CEO qualified the reports as rumors and said that the company remained in its joint ventures with Rosneft.
